The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

NRC in the Middle East is responding to the Syria crisis, assisting refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq as well as people displaced inside Syria. We work in shelter, emergency distributions, education, water and sanitation and legal assistance. Our response on the ground has grown rapidly with the dramatic rise in displacement and we now have more than 1,500 staff members working on the regional response to the Syria crisis.

Do you have minimum significant experience in implementing gender-based violence project portfolio in an INGO or a humanitarian agency? Are you looking for new challenges through working in hardship places and complex environments?

We are looking for Gender Based Violence Project Manager for our Iraq office to be based in Kirkuk.

Our Ideal Candidate:

The Gender Based Violence PM should have a solid experience in Leading advocacy efforts for promoting women’s rights, particularly for women IDPs/returnees

We are looking for someone who promotes continuous learning through research/analysis of lessons learned/best practices; and can enhance NRC’s global GBV capacity.

Job tasks and responsibilities:

  1. Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  2. Contribute to the development of  Country, Area and GBV strategies, initiate and participate in the development of relevant GBV projects
  3. Coordinate and manage GBV project implementation (activities, budget and project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements.
  4. Implement technical direction and ensure high technical quality of projects
  5. Provide regular progress reports to the Area Manager.   
  6. Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  7. Develop and manage project budget (in cooperation with Cs) and coordinate across GBV.
  8. Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
  9. Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
  10. Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy

We offer an 8 months of contract depending on the funding

Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions

Duty station: Kirkuk, Iraq

Approved health certificate will be requested before contract start
