The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

NRC in the Middle East is responding to the Syria crisis, assisting refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq as well as people displaced inside Syria. We work in shelter, emergency distributions, education, water and sanitation and legal assistance. Our response on the ground has grown rapidly with the dramatic rise in displacement and we now have more than 1,500 staff members working on the regional response to the Syria crisis.

NRC is currently recruiting an Education Project Manager for our Iraq Office.

Our ideal candidate is:

Someone who has experience in implementation of Education Program and know the local context. Ideally the candidate should have experience implementing education programs remotely. We are looking for someone who has exposure with start-ups, and someone who can confidently navigate the challenges of working and living in a high risk environment within a complex context.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, coordinate and manage education projects in Iraq in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements 
  2. Contribute to the development of  Country, Area and Education strategies, initiate and participate in the development of Education projects 
  3. Coordinate and manage second line emergency  project implementation (activities, budget and project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirement
  4. Implement technical direction and ensure high technical quality of projects 
  5. Provide regular progress reports  to the Area Manager and relevant Education Specialist    
  6. Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  7. Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities, UN actors and other key stakeholders
  8. Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy

This is a 12 month contract

Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions

Duty station: Baghdad - Iraq

Approved health certificate will be requested before contract start
