Mission and objectives

The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa is responsible for assisting the Secretary-General in coordinating, integrating and aligning United Nations action on the interlinkages between peace, security, human rights and development in Africa, enhancing international support for Africa’s development and security and facilitating intergovernmental deliberations on Africa at the global level, in particular those relating to the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), which was recently transformed into the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD.

Context

Based on the Office's mandate, vision, and mission, OSAA is strengthening the data capacity for evidence-based decision-making, advocacy, and policy monitoring and evaluation to support Africa's transformative agenda. To fulfill this mandate of evidence-based decision-making, SMU data is orchestrating a data eco-system in the Microsoft Azure Cloud platform to feed data into various applications, including a Power BI dashboard. The online volunteer is expected to support the SMU Data Unit to improve the existing data-driven eco-system, which pipelines data from various sources to create a data repository for informing decision-making and policy proposals on development issues.

Task description

We are looking for an Online Volunteer to support our organization/project team with conducting a qualitative/quantitative data analysis and building an online dashboard. The Online Volunteer will be under the guidance of the Lead of the Strategic Management Unit (SMU) Data Team. The Online Volunteer tasks are as follows: - Assist in developing a dashboard in Power BI - Support building data pipelines from UN Data web portal - Support to creating data ingest applications using O365 Power platform and Azure Data Factory - Discuss and consolidate indicators and datasets for the analysis exercise - Suggest indicators and tabulation plan to conduct analysis - Conduct analysis of data and identify relevant trends, patterns, and key findings - Develop a report, according to agreed reporting plan, including visualization and narrative interpretations of findings as required The Online Volunteer/s will have the opportunity to build connections with the SMU at UN OSAA and learn about the ways in which data can support the unit.
