Context

We are seeking a skilled and experienced online volunteer to develop a public web application to disseminate the results of Small Area Estimation (SAE) for around 20 countries. Main dissemination content of each country includes input and output datasets (GIS data and tabulated data), maps, figures, metadata, R codes, and a country report. This application will serve as a valuable component to serve our countries and stakeholder explore and display the SAE project results. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a robust web application that can effectively collect, store, and present different SAE data. The online volunteer will work under the supervision of the Geospatial lead in the Population and Development Branch, Technical Division, receiving guidance from other team members as needed within the GIS team at the Headquarters. The primary objectives of this project are as follows: 1. Develop a user-friendly web application for Small Area Estimation (SAE) data results dissemination for around 20 countries. Main dissemination content of each country includes input and output datasets (GIS data and tabulated data), maps, figures, metadata, R codes, and a country report. 2. Design and implement a scalable (allowing to add more country results in future) and efficient web application. 3. Ensure the application is accessible/open to the public and responsive across different devices and platforms. 4. Provide an intuitive user interface with interactive data visualization capabilities. 5. Collaborate with the project team to gather requirements and ensure the application meets their needs.

Task description

The online volunteer will be responsible for the following tasks: 1. Collaborate with the team to gather requirements and understand the application's functional and technical specifications. 2. Design and develop a web application using suitable programming languages and frameworks. The web application will include various interactive data visualization features. 3. Create a scalable and efficient database structure (allowing to add more country results in future), considering data normalization and optimization. 4. Develop an admin backend to ensure data update and upload. 5. Perform thorough testing, debugging and provide troubleshooting assistance. 6. Optimize application performance and ensure it is responsive across various devices and platforms. 7. Document the development process, including code documentation, database schema, and user manuals.
