Mission and objectives

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential. Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone. UNICEF has been mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to increase opportunities for them to reach their full potential. UNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to ensure that these rights become enduring ethical principles and international standards of conduct towards children.

Context

This United Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment is part of UNICEF’s communication programme, encompassing a portfolio from brand building, digital and emergency/humanitarian communications, advocacy for child rights, partnership and media engagement. In the past decade, UNICEF has committed substantial resources and direction to a renewed digital presence for the organization, in line with the Global Communication and Public Advocacy Strategy. As digital transformation progressed across the organization, Armenia country office launched its new bilingual www.unicef.org/Armenia corporate website, established www.Babycef.am parenting website in partnership with the Ministry of Health of Armenia and has extensively used its online and social media presence in the humanitarian response to the refugee crisis. The office would like to further strengthen its digital governance framework with a focus on driving public engagement, launching the Babycef learning platform, and focusing content on human interest storytelling with the aim to increase the reach of its messaging and public engagement around the humanitarian response. This includes for example efforts to provide caregivers with evidence based guidance on parenting and children’s development, to provide information about available services for refugee children and their families, as well as about relevant UNICEF programmes and results. In digital communications, the section works to create compelling public-facing content, provide digital services and analytics in the office. Through multiple platforms and languages, the section draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation and action, with an increased focus on fundraising, as well as ensuring transparency and accountability. Web stories, photo essays, Facebook Lives and posts, Instagram and Twitter activations, and videos for distribution via www.unicef.org/Armenia in Armenian and English and www.Babycef.am, YouTube, news media and other outlets and platforms are all a part of our digital storytelling.
