Job Description

Background: The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future.

Scope of Service: The Job Placement & Training AmeriCorps will provide training on topics including job readiness, financial and digital literacy, and support other activities to help recently arrived refugees and other immigrants attain economic self-sufficiency through employment. This position reports to the Employment Specialist.

Responsibilities:

•Facilitate Job Readiness Training (JRT) to employable adults, updating curriculum as needed

•Deliver engaging activity-based workshops to prepare clients entering the U.S. workforce, covering topics including, but not limited to, U.S. work culture and expectations, work documentation and new hire paperwork, resume writing, and interview preparation.

•Coordinate with early employment and financial coaching teams to deliver financial and digital literacy training to clients individually or in group sessions

•Conduct JRT pre- and post-assessments for program monitoring and evaluation (M&E)

•Maintain electronic case files and record of client services

•Provide employment and job placement support as needed, including employer outreach for job development and one-on-one client meetings

•Participate in all program meetings and development activities, including quarterly outreach calls, for both AmeriCorps and IRC Economic Empowerment programming


Qualifications

•Previous experience teaching, tutoring, or training, preferably focused on adult education, English as a second language (ESL), or workforce development

•Strong communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English; additional language skills in one of the primary languages of Richmond client-base desired

•Demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

•Must have a valid driver’s license and consistent access to reliable transportation

•Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) authorized to work in the U.S.

•Must be at least 18 years old

•Must commit to one full term of service through August 31, 2024

•Must be high school graduate, GED recipient, or working toward attaining a high school diploma / GED during their term of service

•Must complete a National Service Criminal History check

Please note this position is an AmeriCorps role starting in September where the living stipend is $28,800. Upon completion of service, AmeriCorps member will be eligible for an education award of approx. $7,395.

Proposed activities will be supported, in part, with federal funds from the AmeriCorps State program sub-granted through the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Department of Social Services. Activities are contingent upon funding availability and award from AmeriCorps.
