Mission and objectives

Los Centros de Información, Servicios y oficinas de las Naciones Unidas (CINUs y SINUs) están ubicados en 63 países de todo el mundo y unen a las Naciones Unidas con personas de todo el mundo al transmitir los mensajes mundiales de las Naciones Unidas a los públicos locales. El Centro funge como fuente fidedigna de información actualizada acerca de las Naciones Unidas y difunde información a muchas personas en sus respectivos países, incluyendo a periodistas, funcionarios de gobiernos, representantes de la sociedad civil, estudiantes, maestros e investigadores. Estrategia de Comunicaciones Los CINUs desarrollan e implementan una estrategia de comunicaciones coordinada para los países a los cuales prestan sus servicios con la asesoría del equipo de las Naciones Unidas en el país y los colaboradores locales con el fin de dar a conocer los asuntos prioritarios, las celebraciones más importantes y los eventos de las Naciones Unidas. Los CINUs adaptan los mensajes mundiales de las Naciones Unidas al contexto local a través de una variedad de productos informativos enfocados en los diferentes públicos regionales/subregionales y nacionales en las respectivas lenguas del área.

Context

The United Nations Information Centres (UNIC) are a network of 63 offices worldwide that are key to reaching the world's peoples and sharing the United Nations story with them in their languages. The UNIC is the primary source of information about the UN in the countries where they are located and is responsible for promoting greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the UN. It is part of the Department of Global Communications (DGC) of the UN Secretariat. News monitoring and social listening are key activities to understand perceptions around the UN and its work, identify risks and opportunities, and inform decision-making, among other goals. These activities are instrumental in strengthening the positioning of the United Nations in the region as a crucial partner for having a regional scope to identify the most representative news in the following countries: Anguilla Antigua and Barbuda Aruba Bahamas, The Barbados Belize Bermuda British Virgin Islands Cayman Islands, The Curaçao Dominica Grenada Guyana Jamaica Montserrat Saint Kitts and Nevis Saint Lucia Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Sint Maarten Suriname Trinidad and Tobago Turks and Caicos Islands News to be monitored should be i) those from 22 countries, main national media, and alternative news media in their various formats that reflect UN work or statements; ii) comments from media, stakeholders, and other key audiences that may affect positively or negatively the image of the Organization, iii) international media coverage on prioritized issues in Caribbean Region.

Task description

We are looking for two Online Volunteers who, under the immediate supervision of the Director of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) for the Caribbean in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, will support Monitoring UN-related news and political context. They will monitor and then produce a daily bulletin according to the requirements established by UNIC, to be discussed and determined. - Monitor the news in prioritized regions in the Caribbean for pieces that mention the United Nations. - Monitor the news for pieces on prioritized social and political issues - Monitor the news in national media for pieces that may interest United Nations agencies, funds, programmes, and staff. - Prepare a daily (Monday to Friday) bulletin with news, including headlines, summary, and links to the news. The bulletin should be delivered to UNIC before 9:00 a.m. Trinidad and Tobago time, Monday through Friday. - Draft weekly media insights report on prioritized issues.
