Our three focus areas


We believe that in order for communities to thrive, children need to be protected, and women and men must enjoy the same human rights and be given the same opportunities to participate in decisions that affect their lives. Our prioritizes in the Community area includes: Access to justice; Accountability and Transparency; Citizen participation; Gender equality and; Governance.

During 2013-2014 in the area of Community: 74 Cuso International volunteers worked with 43 partner organizations delivering community projects in 13 countries.


Cuso International volunteers and partners work together to improve access to basic services. Healthy people are better able to work, learn, take care of families and participate in community’s development. But access to health care remains a challenge for people living in poverty, in remote communities, or excluded because of race, gender or class. Our prioritize in the Health area includes: Maternal, newborn and child health; Quality health services

During 2013-2014 in the area of Health, 50 volunteers worked with 32 partner groups in 8 countries to support health initiatives.


Global economic challenges, such as food security and employment, ecological risks like climate change, and discrimination based on gender, disproportionately affect men, women and children living in poverty. Through skilled volunteers and collaborative partnerships, Cuso International is working to help people and the communities in which they live become more self-sufficient and resilient. Our priorities in the Livelihood area includes: Education and Skills training to improve employability; Enterprise development and Financing; Entrepreneurship support and Training; Sustainable agriculture and; Sustainable natural resource management and Climate change adaptation

During 2013-2014 in the area of Livelihoods, 281 volunteers worked with 143 partner organizations to improve their livelihoods programs in 25 countries.
