Jointly established by 194 Member States of the United Nations in 2010, GCF invests in transformational projects that build low-emission and climate-resilient economies in developing countries. The Fund will serve as an enabler of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, channelling significant financial resources to developing countries to make an ambitious contribution to global climate action.

To realize this unprecedented mission, GCF is expanding its workforce. It is seeking a Finance and Budget Assistant who will be part of a growing organization that offers exciting challenges and responsibilities. Position description

The Finance and Budget Assistant will be in charge of maintaining a filing system, liaising with local banks, bookkeeping, preparing payments for consultants, bank reconciliation, supporting preparation of financial statements, preparing DSA payments and day-to-day administrative support to the GCF Finance team. Duties and responsibilities

The Finance and Budget Assistant will be performing the following duties:

  • Establish and maintain a filing system for hard copies of documentation;
  • Liaise with the Fund’s local bank on issues relating to the GCF bank account and other service providers employed by the Secretariat;
  • Develop and update a simple book-keeping system to monitor expenditures and petty cash payments from the account;
  • Prepare payments for consultants’ fees, salaries and other entitlements of staff, vendors, etc;
  • Reconcile at month end both the KWON and USD bank accounts and monitor credits and debits on a daily basis to ensure accounts are accurate and up to date;
  • Provide support in the preparation of financial statements and reports to the Board;
  • Provide support in the preparation of monthly financial status reports for Management to update and assess the financial health and activities of the Secretariat;
  • Responsible for DSA payments for Board Meetings, interviews, etc, held at headquarters in Songdo; Manage and monitor the petty cash by making payments, ensuring paperwork is signed and in order, and reconciling and reporting at the end of each month;
  • Provide general day-to-day administrative support to the GCF Administration team as and when required;
  • Verify arrival/departure clearance as Certifying Officer ensuring staff members separating from the Fund have handed over the property of the Fund to the Certifying Officer before they get their final entitlements.

Required experience and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or relevant fields
  • Five years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of/ability to perform diverse and intricate work routines that are specific in objective;
  • Intermediate knowledge of personal computers and ability to use standard applications suite (MS Office);
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure; take initiative in judging priorities and organizing work accordingly;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and highly developed cultural sensitivity in communicating with all levels of staff and external clients, both orally and in writing;
  • Willingness to cooperate with other staff in a team and contribute to a harmonious environment is essential;
  • Proven ability to innovate within team environment;
  • Mature judgment and absolute commitment to confidentiality;
  • Willingness to work overtime at short notice;
  • Knowledge of the Fund’s procedures is an asset
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage
