BACKGROUND

Since 2007 UNICEF has been a global leader in leveraging technology to advance development goals. Innovation work at UNICEF currently exists as a highly distributed network of labs, designers, developers, program managers, academics and private-sector partners, at headquarters, regional and country office level. The team focuses on:•Identifying program needs and linking them to innovative technologies and methodologies.•Building the capacity of colleagues at the country, regional and global levels, enabling them to identify and assess opportunities for the use of innovations.•Advising government counterparts.•Creating and strengthening partnerships, and supporting capacity building with local and regional stakeholders.•Managing the design and development of software and hardware products.•Supporting the roll-out of innovative programs and initiatives.

PURPOSE OF THE APPOINTMENT / MAIN ACTIVITIES

A key pillar of Innovation work at UNICEF is partnership with the private sector, academia, and other civil society actors. The Innovation Partnership Coordinator is responsible for providing programmatic and administrative support for the private sector portfolio that is handled by the Office of Innovation n San Francisco, in close coordination with the NYHQ Office of Innovation.

Main Responsibilities

1.Provide support to the team on a key UNICEF partnership with a strategic technology company (ARM Holdings), which is expected to include some of the following work: assistance with various aspects of the Wearables for Good activities post-challenge, including support of project management duties, communication with stakeholders, and new Y2/Y3 activities. All coordination and additional activities will be to support the partnership activities and meet activity deadlines, so may shift as partnership develops.2.Work with partnerships team to examine the trends and opportunities that exist against the pillars of future technology that UNICEF Innovation is looking at technology solutions geared towards the urban poor. In this role, the coordinator will help develop a design handbook centered on urbanization including necessary research, stakeholder interviews, and writing portions of content, as requested. 3.Under guidance of partnerships team, support pilot projects addressing the urban poor using future technologies, i.e LOT, wearables and sensors, etc.4.Support the team needs on the effective relationship management for other assigned private sector partners from the portfolio, the specifics of which will depend on the fluctuating needs and opportunities within each relationship.5.Write original content, edit and organize materials produced for partners, as well as for internal stakeholders.6.Assist the team with administrative tasks as requested, including meeting coordination, updating of monthly partnerships documentation (for both internal innovation team and US Fund), and oversight/management of local events in conjunction with US Fund.7.Regular updating of partnership database, and due diligence screening requests alongside appropriate national committee colleagues; provide pro-active communication with Innovation colleagues and PFP to encourage knowledge sharing around partnership activities and opportunities.

* The work as the partnerships coordinator requires simultaneous implementation of various tasks and deliverables throughout the contract period as specified above, including regular updating of materials, email updates and the partnership database. All monthly and ongoing tasks and deliverables, and all related documentation will therefore be evaluated each month, with fluctuation in deliverables expected.

PAYMENT PLAN

•Monthly payment, based on monthly tasks and progress reports, approved upon monthly review with supervisor.•Consultant is responsible for his own health insurance•Consultant is eligible for standard DSA for all work-related travel.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

•University degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Social Policy, Social Development, Community Development, Information Technology, Business, or other relevant disciplines. Advanced degree preferred such as an MBA, MPH, etc.•Five years (minimum) of progressively responsible professional work experience at the national and international levels in programme and relationship management required.•Demonstrated planning, communications, and writing skills required. Ability to produce original work and content, documentation of results of innovation programs, storytelling ability and editing skills an asset.•Knowledge of development programming including experience working in developing countries/contexts with the UNICEF, UN and international organizations, Foundations or NGOs required. •Deep knowledge of urbanization and best practices of implementing new ideas and technologies in cities•Prior experience in the private sector. Experience in start-up companies/organisations is an asset. Entrepreneurial failures are considered as valuable experience.•Experience in project management, development of project management tools; Proven capacity to work with and encourage collaboration among teams across different locations and with different technical skills•Capacity to support coordination of events with multiple stakeholders•A strong understanding of UNICEF's mission and vision as well as its programmes through direct or indirect work experience with UNICEF•Understanding of corporate engagement dimensions an asset•Familiarity with the work of the UNICEF Office of Innovation an asset•Prior experience in working on children's issues an asset
