Do your friends ask you to help get their phone onto the wireless network? Have you ever switched from an iPhone to an Android and back again, just for fun? Would you like to put your technical skills to work in international development? Then Pact might be looking for you!

Pact— an international development not-for-profit with more than 40 years of experience implementing projects in 30 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America—is working with Hewlett Packard Enterprises to develop an Android phone app called “MyWORTH” that will provide a digitized accounting system for our global savings groups’ village “banks.” We need your help testing it and rolling it out.

About the WORTH program
Since 1994, Pact has reached over 400,000 women in 15 countries with our award-winning WORTH (Women Organizing Resources Together) program. Through WORTH, Pact brings poor, primarily rural women together in groups of 25 with a women’s economic empowerment model that integrates savings-led microfinance, literacy and numeracy, group banking, and micro-enterprise development, while strengthening social networks and empowering women to have a voice in their communities. Participants create transparent credit and savings groups and save on a weekly basis. The group’s savings are pooled, managed by the group independently, and available in short-term, low-interest loans to members, primarily for income generation. At the end of the six-month financial cycle, interest earned is distributed proportionately to group members, and members can decide to spend or to save it during the next cycle. The WORTH model is one of Pact’s most effective poverty-reduction tools because it places women at the centre of their own solutions and helps them build up multiple types of assets from diversified income streams.

About the MyWORTH” app
More than 2.5 billion adults worldwide lack access to financial institutions. Those living in rural areas are especially disadvantaged with more than 75% of the world’s poor excluded. Today, more than 12million of those excluded from financial services are participating in informal groups such as WORTH, accessing self-generated savings and credit services. The MyWORTH mobile application will create for these informal credit groups a simple yet reliable digitized recordkeeping system, directly increasing their return on investment while decreasing their opportunity costs. MyWORTH will initially be utilized in Pact’s existing and new savings-group programs with later availability to other savings group implementers.
