Nepal Disaster Resilience Programme Manager

The Nepal team of the British Red Cross (BRC) is seeking an experienced Programme Manager, to support Nepal Red Cross Society’s (NRCS) implementation of programmes funded by BRC. A key component of this role will be to support NRCS to deliver on an exciting new multiyear urban risk reduction programme in 5 municipalities. In addition to this you will be responsible for successfully accompanying a multi-year disaster resilience programme based in the Jhapa district of eastern Nepal. This role will see you working in close partnership with the NRCS in their implementation of these programmes and as such, it is essential that you have extensive experience in delivering high quality programmes through local partners. The successful candidate will be working in an established BRC team based in Kathmandu who currently also support NRCS’ large scale earthquake recovery project in the Kathmandu Valley.
The successful candidate will have a wealth of experience in Programme Management with a positive and solutions-oriented outlook. Importantly, they will have the skills and experience to think strategically and develop practical and realistic tools and interventions that meet needs and strengthen capacities. It will be important that the post holder leads by example and conducts themselves in line with the principles and values of the RC movement. This is an interesting and demanding position and will require flexibility to adapt to evolving circumstances and a determination to meet challenges with win-win outcomes.
The selected candidate will hold a sound understanding of working with local partners to achieve shared results and impact. To be appointable you will have extensive experience of project cycle management in the international development / humanitarian sectors, with considerable knowledge of programme design, mentoring/coaching partners, and ensuring responsive and accountable interventions. As well as budgeting, reforecasting and monitoring of multi-million, multi-year, multi-currency budgets, the right candidate will bring demonstrable skills in capacity building, training, and relationship management.
The successful candidate will receive the following benefits package;

  • Starting salary £33,924
  • £1,045 monthly subsistence allowance
  • 28 days annual leave per annum (excluding public holidays)

  • Flights to and from Kathmandu for start and end of mission
  • Long service leave flights
  • Accompanied position (flights, accommodation and insurance provided for accompanying family memembers)
