Shelter Coordinator-Urban Project in Thessaloniki- Greek national/resident and asylum seekers applicants only - Greece


NRC started operations on Chios in mid-October 2015 and has since directly assisted over 70,000 refugees and
migrants, working together with the Greek authorities, humanitarian actors and volunteers to set up and
maintain a dignified and efficient flow of refugees from arrival at the beach, via registration and reception
facilities, to departure by boat or plane to mainland Greece.
NRC Thessaloniki is now looking forward to cover the position of the Shelter Coordinator.

Job description

Line management of Urban Shelter project field staff
Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
Contribute to Urban Shelter strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps
Manage and implement delegated portfolio of Urban Shelter projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from PM in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
Provide regular progress reports to PM
Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
Ensure appropriate planning and implementation of Urban Project and propose innovative alternatives and solutions, to achieve the outcomes.
Support the Urban Consultancy process, contribute to the draft of the final report, and to the design of the implementation according to the findings and results.
Ensure that the implementation integrates protection and vulnerability analysis
Ensure correct data tracking for the intervention and prepare reports according to requirements
Ensure that sound technical solutions provided for projects (selection of housing, public buildings, refurbishing works and water and sanitation facilities)
Ensure that efficient Information management and mapping tools are developed for the project


Understanding of the Refugee crisis in Greece
Fluency in English and Greek, both written and verbal
At least 3 years of managerial Experience
At least 3 years of experience in construction, design and supervision
Post Graduate Studies in Civil engineering and certification according to the Greek law
Very Good knowledge of construction related Greek normative and regulations
Excellent proficiency in Office package, Autocad and Sketch up or similar application
Proven experience in integrating protection and vulnerability analysis in previous work
Previous experience in start-up projects
Experience from working within technical expertise area in a humanitarian/ recovery context is a plus
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts is a plus
Working knowledge of Arabic or Farsi is a plus
