Environmental Education Expert - USAID Project (Two positions)

IUCN Pakistan has been awarded the project ‘Integrated Approach for Education, Capacity Building and Livelihood Development of Coastal Communities in Sindh and in Balochistan Provinces’ under USAID Small Grants and Ambassador Fund Programme. The Project will be implemented by IUCN Pakistan through Country Office – Karachi during the period September 2016 to September 2017.
The objectives of the project are to promote integrated coastal management by running an environmental education program in 50 schools through awareness sessions, educational visits and dissemination of posters; Conducting research in the illegal trade of freshwater turtles and recommending measures for addressing the same; Conserving sea turtles by protecting their nests and creating awareness among beach hut watchers; Building capacity of fisher folk in natural resource management; and Promoting mangrove based eco-tourism by constructing required infrastructure, developing an ecotourism operational plan, and capacitating local civil society organization for active involvement in the same.
We are searching for self-motivated professionals who have a proven track record of meeting challenges through proactive approaches.
The incumbent will be responsible for implementation of the project activities in the coastal areas of Pakistan under the supervision and guidance of Project Manager – USAID Project. It includes building meaningful and strong partnerships with project partners, with whom the project can work and make a strong impact.
• Work under direct supervision of the Project Manager and provide technical backstopping, advice and support in implementation of the project activities.
• Responsible for development of resource materials for varied audiences and conducting awareness raising and capacity building sessions of fisher folks in natural resources management, organisation of events and workshops under the project.
• Liaise with school management of identified schools for the conduct of awareness sessions, including evaluation of the conducted sessions and other related events and dissemination of educational materials as prescribed under the project.
• Identify and liaise with technical experts/resource persons and engage their support in developing and conducting awareness sessions under the project.
• Support in undertaking of pre project baseline and post project impact studies under the project.
• Coordinate with Field Coordinators in the implementation of awareness and capacity building and other project activities and making logistical arrangements thereof.
• Monitor activities of turtle watchers for conservation of sea turtles by protecting their nests and creating awareness among beach hut watchers.
• Design monthly and quarterly plans of activities and initiatives including budgets with a clear vision towards the goal of the project.
• Liaise with and monitor implementation of activities of Field Coordinators and provide technical backstopping.
• Coordinate with Field Coordinators for collection of field activities reports, compile and submit these to the Project Manager on a monthly basis.
• Liaise with project partners and relevant local government representatives, NGOs, CBOs and teachers to involve them in executing planned initiatives of the project as well as their capacity building.
• Plan and bring up joint initiatives with other programmes and project of IUCN Pakistan.
• Work in harmony with the Communication Unit and provide and facilitate documentation of field stories and articles in relation to the project activities.
