Shelter/WASH Technical Officer in Thessaloniki- Greek national/resident and asylum seekers applicants only - Greece


NRC started operations on Chios in mid-October 2015 and has since directly assisted over 70,000 refugees and
migrants, working together with the Greek authorities, humanitarian actors and volunteers to set up and
maintain a dignified and efficient flow of refugees from arrival at the beach, via registration and reception
facilities, to departure by boat or plane to mainland Greece.
NRC Thessaloniki is now looking forward to cover the position of the Shelter/WASH Technical Officer.

Job description

Assess the sites, and/or buildings to be used as school facilities and design repairs and/or refurbishment needed to adapt them to education needs.
Monitor and document the implementation of project activities done by implementing partners and/or contractors (plan of action activities, contracts, financial expenditures and project documentation)
Be responsible for decisions and actions that will impact on delivery of the projects
Provide specific technical analysis and feedback to NRC representatives in coordination forums
Assess, promote and document ideas for technical improvement and further program development options
Provide specific technical support and capacity building towards project staff
Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist
Ensure compliance with NRC policies, guidelines and standards
Ensure compliance with Shelter strategy, tools, handbooks, guidelines and standards
Ensure compliance with INEE and Sphere tools, handbooks, guidelines and standards as well as with the National normative and regulations and liaison with relevant Greek authorities


Understanding of the Refugee crisis in Greece
Fluency in English and Greek, both written and verbal
At least 3 years of experience in construction, design and supervision, preferable related with Educational facilities
Civil engineer degree and certification according to the Greek law
Very Good knowledge of construction related Greek normative and regulations.
Excellent proficiency in Office package, Autocad and Sketch up or similar application
Experience from working within technical expertise area in a humanitarian/ recovery context is a plus
Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts is a plus
Working knowledge of Arabic or Farsi is a plus
