Purpose of the post 

As an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Ward Nurse promotes and ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care aiming to achieve national/international standards depending on the context.

The Ward Nurse works at building capacity in nursing care and infection control in ICRC assisted or independent hospital structures with often limited resources and in challenging environments.

Your tasks

  • Provides high quality care, often in a limited resource setting, to admitted patients, following the ICRC nursing guidelines and in collaboration with other members of the surgical team.
  • Participates in the delivery of a programme of training/coaching to measurably improve the provision of high-quality patient care.
  • Promotes a clean and safe patient environment and ensures that ICRC hygiene standards are regularly measured and maintained (sterilization and infection control and safety regarding the handling of sharps, fire safety, waste management, etc...)
  • Ensures accurate data collection through the timely completion and filing of all patient/structure related documents.
  • Participates effectively in the team and medical structures preparedness & response to emergencies.
  • Develops a dialogue which demonstrates a strong understanding of the need to cooperate with and support both internal and external counterparts.Ensures a rational use of resources available and reordering of supplies.
  • Ensures the appropriate use and maintenance of equipment.
  • May supervise certain resident nursing and hospital support staff.

Your qualifications

  • Degree in nursing (a course at least 3 years).
  • Registered nurse with a valid license to practice in his/her country.

Your profile

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in hospital posting, which should include 3 years at least preferably in general, orthopedic, or trauma wards.
  • Very good French and English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Driving license for manual transmission vehicles with practice.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity.
  • Good communication skills, capacity to manage and work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Positive, flexible and able to adapt him/herself to harsh living conditions and/or unstable security environment.

Your assets

  • Previous experience(s) in acute care departments such as ER, ICU and Recovery Room
  • Good command of Arabic, Spanish, Russian
  • Previous International humanitarian and/or development experience in low-income countries (NGOs', IOs' or charities)
  • Previous experience(s) within the Red Cross & Red Crescent movement

Contractual conditions

Assignment: 6 months minimum, preferably longer. Non-family posting.
