Senior PSFR Officer (Strategic Partnership, Leadership Giving)


Reporting to the Chief of Section (PSFR, Leadership Giving), the incumbent will lead private partnerships providing overall strategic direction, relationship management and oversight.

Collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders is vital to success in this role. The incumbent  must establish superior working relationships internally with key staff across the organization, externally with private partnership counterpart's, major donor and other stakeholders.

* Suppliers, consultants, agencies and advisors.

Internal work relationships and contacts
* The Executive Office, particularly the Office of the Deputy High Commissioner, including UNHCR Innovation.
* The Private Sector Fundraising Service (PSFR), including the broader PSFR network, particularly the Chief of Section (PSFR Leadership Giving), the Deputy Head of Service, and PSFR Thematics Unit.
* Various services within the Division of External Relations, including Public Information and Strategic Communications.
* UNHCR Bureaux overseeing operations where - private partnership supported programs are implemented.
* UNHCR Field Operations where private partnership-supported programs are implemented.
* UNHCR Divisions providing technical guidance and advice on areas of interest to private partnerships.



- Private Partnerships are developed and managed in close coordination with PSFR and UNHCR Innovation; a multi-year plan and strategy is in place for the partnership.
- Innovative strategies for securing new private partnerships are established.
- Global strategy for recruiting key business influences across sectors is developed and implemented.


- Contribute to the design of the UNHCR Private Partnership strategy and oversee its implementation.
- Ensure overall coordination and stewardship of the partnership, overseeing the execution of all activities under the partnership, except specific components managed directly by UNHCR Innovation.
- Jointly plan and execute, with the Deputy High Commissioner, UNHCR Innovation and PSFR, an annual review of the partnership.
- Coordinate, in consultation with PSFR, the development of funding proposals, ensuring that funds are directed toward core activities, that adequate budget space is available, and that present and future implementation capacity is duly taken into account in the planning process.
- Coordinate, in consultation with PSFR, the development of interim and final reports, ensuring that partnership reporting requirements and deadlines are met, in line with jointly agreed reporting schedules.
- Serve as the focal point for all internal and external communication issues concerning the partnership, and advise senior managers accordingly.
- Communicate accurate and timely information in a persuasive manner to the partner about UNHCR's programs and activities, with a focus on giving appropriate visibility and recognition to cash and in-kind contributions with a focus on their positive impact on UNHCR populations of concern.
- Guide and accompany the partner on missions to UNHCR field operations, including camps and sites, as well as on the occasion of special events, such as the Nansen Refugee Award ceremony.
- Provide briefings to UNHCR senior staff about the partnership, as required.
- Provide briefings and presentations about the partnership to external audiences, as required.
- Track and monitor all contributions made to UNHCR, ensuring in particular that payments are made according to agreed schedules, and that appropriate invoices and receipts are issued.
- Ensure that meticulous records are kept of all approaches to the partner and their outcomes recorded.
- Ensure that all documentation related to contributions made by the partner , including legal agreements, meet UNHCR's standards and audit requirements.
- Provide monthly, quarterly and annual funding data and updates, including for PSFR budgeting and reporting purposes.


- Develop and manage private partnerships.
- Develop initiatives to promote public awareness of UNHCR and persons of concern and obtain financial support for UNHCR activities.


- Advanced University degree in business administration, marketing, social sciences, public relations, communications or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years (12 years for University degree holders) of relevant work experience.
- Previous relevant work experience in a not-for-profit organization.
- All round experience of corporate partnerships fundraising techniques including obtaining financial support for projects, securing in-kind donations, employee giving, consumer fundraising, cause related marketing and other forms of partnership engagement.
- Experience in handling donor visibility and recognition programs.
- Demonstrated leadership, revenue growth and strategy setting experience in corporate fundraising, leading a team raising significant donations ($10 million plus) from companies and corporate foundations.
- Experience of effective communication at senior levels and with company leaders, providing compelling cases for support and proposals.
- Superior negotiation and communication skills, with strong interpersonal, networking and relationship-building skills.
- Superior ability in explaining complex issues to external donors, presenting the organization and diverse operations in an appealing and concise manner, and understanding how to reconcile the needs of the organization with those of the corporate partner.
- Willingness to travel frequently.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.


- Experience in coordinating successful CRM programmes highly desirable.
- Knowledge of humanitarian assistance and UN environment preferred.
- Understanding of the complexities of working with an international organization with multiple geographical operational sites.
- Proven project management and excellent organization skills.
- Fluency in another UN language is highly desirable.
