WASH/SHELTER TECHNICAL Officer Greek national /resident applicants and asylum seekers only - Greece


The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

NRC started operations on Chios in mid-October 2015 and has since directly assisted over 70,000 refugees and migrants, working together with the Greek authorities, humanitarian actors and volunteers to set up and maintain a dignified and efficient flow of refugees from arrival at the beach, via registration and reception facilities, to departure by boat or plane to mainland Greece.
The purpose of the assistant position is to assist in the day to day implementation of the support functions responsibilities.
NRC will now expand it's activities to Thessaloniki.

Job description

Implement the Infrastructure/WASH activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
Ensure adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements
Ensure that the identification and prioritization of infrastructure works is done in an inclusive and collaborative manner, and that all actors, in particular the asylum-seekers themselves, have a say in the decision-making
Involve and inform local authorities about the activities and ensure that all projects are in line with national guidelines and regulations.
Break down the operational plans into monthly and weekly implementation plans, and share those plans with relevant colleagues and partners


Minimum 7 years’ experience from working with architecture, infrastructures, water, sanitation or shelter projects. Experience from working with social work and/or with distribution of humanitarian assistance is an advantage.
Degree or diploma in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Health, or other relevant educational background combined with relevant professional experience.
