CARE is seeking a Protection Project Manager that will manage staff based in Gaziantep and Sanliurfa and potentially other areas of southern Turkey in future. S/he will be required to travel regularly to field sites in southern Turkey and some overnight stays in locations other than the base location may be required. Occasional work at weekends may be required.

Under the Program Manager’s guidance and supervision, the Protection Project Manager will be responsible for implementation of protection components of projects, including line-managing staff in the Refugee Team directly implementing protection activities under these grants. In addition it is expected that the Protection Project Manager will ensure that all grants for which s/he is focal point are implemented in a manner that ensures the highest accountability standards for internal (partners, client/beneficiaries and CARE country office and CI members) and external (donors, local stakeholders) clients. The role of the Protection Project Manager will also involve coordination, oversight and coaching of the protection team in technical aspects of implementation, with the support of the Gender and Protection Advisor and other technical staff. The Protection Project Manager will ensure that all work plans are prepared and implemented according to schedule.

Primary Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least five years of work experience in project management, social work and protection fields of which at least two should be in a not-for-profit, humanitarian organization.
  • Experience in managing and implementing humanitarian or emergency projects.
  • Demonstrable experience of working on protection programs, especially on case management and PSS for vulnerable women, men, boys and girls.
  • Experience of managing/supervising staff.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing training and capacity building on protection issues.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
  • Very good English language skills (written and spoken)
  • Strong project management experience in complex emergency contexts.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge and skills on prevention and response to protection cases (including case management and psychosocial support).
  • Demonstrable understanding of key protection principles.
  • Good knowledge and experience of managing protection databases/data management systems.
  • Gender awareness and a commitment to gender equality.
  • Strong coaching, training and mentoring skills.
  • Good awareness of safety, security and risk management best practices.
  • Strong team building and interpersonal skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
