OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : The main aims of Pandemic and Epidemic Diseases (PED) department are to:1) make available to others expert knowledge and guidance based on scientific and public health experience related to the prevention and control of epidemic and pandemic infectious diseases and related risks such as antimicrobial drug resistance;2) to develop, implement, facilitate or coordinate the mechanisms, activities, public health research and initiatives needed by countries and the international community to prevent, detect, assess, notify and respond to acute and longer term public health risks related to epidemic and pandemic infectious diseases; 3) to strengthen, support and promote important measures such as research, vaccination and infection control that are critical for mitigating the impact of infectious diseases; and4) to provide programmatic support during outbreaks and other urgent health security events. The department covers influenza and other respiratory diseases, cholera, meningitis, yellow fever, and numerous other dangerous pathogens as well as the management of specific related systems, networks and groups. Description of duties: Act as a technical- and project officer for the review of The Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework for the sharing of influenza viruses and access vaccines and other benefits (the "PIP Framework" or "Framework"). The PIP Framework and WHA64.5 may be downloaded from: Assigned Duties:Under the broad supervision of Director PED and direct management of the PIP Review Group Team Lead the incumbent will act as a Technical Officer for the Review Group. This will include close contact and collaboration with other clusters and departments within WHO as well as regular interaction with Member States, WHO Regional Offices and other stakeholders, including industry and civil society organizations.The incumbent will produce background documents and supporting material required from the Review Group members. This will involve:· Undertaking desk reviews and research· Preparing surveys and interview questions· Carrying out research and analysis · Preparing presentations on the findings · Drafting reports on findings · Undertaking other tasks as assigned by the Team Lead. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education:Essential: An advanced degree in law, public health, social sciences, business administration, project management, international relations or a relevant field of study. *For WHO staff please see e-manual III.4.1, para 220. Skills: Proven ability to write technical documents in a clear and concise manner. Good knowledge of the practice, processes and approaches for effective communications including drafting/writing skills. Ability to work and produce results under pressure and meet deadlines. Integrity, tact and discretion dealing with sensitive issues. They consist of a base salary and a post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates.
