Job Summary: Responsible for the solicitation of major gifts from individuals and the development and implementation of programs and activities designed to secure financial support from individuals through gifts at the $25,000 level and above. The Regional Development Director will have responsibility for the geographic region that includes Los Angeles County.

Appropriate target goals will be determined through annual consultation with the VP of Leadership Giving and Senior Regional Development Director, West Coast.

Job Responsibilities:

· Solicitation of major gifts of $25,000 and above as well as multi-year pledges.

· Manage a portfolio of approximately 150-200 qualified prospects through the various stages of a major gifts moves management process in order to attain specific annual goals.

· Create and implement strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit major donors, to sustain and expand the portfolio of major donors, and to provide effective stewardship and recognition for major gifts.

· Create relationships and personally meet with former donors, donor prospects, donor advisers, corporate leadership and occasional foundation funders in the cultivation and solicitation process.

· Provide constituents with current information about the CRS mission, major initiatives and related programs.

· Progressively build strong relationships with volunteers, board members, corporate representatives, foundations, current donors and prospective donors

· Facilitate appropriate donor interaction with CRS senior and executive management

· Participate in prospect rating, tracking, and management

· Ensure focus on professional development, staying current in the development field through learning, conference attendance, networking, as appropriate

· Prepare proposals, letters, call reports and acknowledgments

· Promote the overall effectiveness of the Major Gifts Unit

· Perform related activities as required.

Personal Skills:
* Strong ability to understand donor motivations, sensitivity to personal needs and unasked questions, strong negotiation skills
* Forthright approach regarding solicitation of financial gifts for the agency
* Excellent decision-making skills and the ability to find meaningful ways to involve technical staff and others in cultivation strategies
* Strong capacity for independent action, particularly the ability to work from home and rely upon an administrative structure located in the Baltimore, MD headquartered office
* Excellent verbal and writing skills
* Curiosity, sense of humor, high energy level, and an enthusiasm for meeting and working with a wide range of individuals

* Bachelor’s degree in related field; master’s degree or CFRE preferred
* Seven years’ experience in development or related field, major gift fundraising preferred
* Proven track record of accomplishment in fundraising including successful solicitation and closing of major gifts
* Knowledge of philanthropy in the assigned geographic area
* Team player who can also work independently in a complex environment
* Working knowledge of prospect tracking systems and donor data bases
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to travel domestically as well as periodic overseas trips with donors (typically once every 12 to 24 months)

Physical Requirements/Environment: The individual will work from a home office. Location is flexible within Los Angeles County.
