Description of duties: Within BMA's research framework, the Scientist is expected to contribute in the following areas:- planning, design and conduct of metabolomic studies to investigate the relationship between lifestyle, diet, environment and cancer;- development of innovative targeted and non-targeted metabolomic methods;- collection of high-quality metabolomic data and their analysis and interpretation;- preparation and writing of scientific manuscripts and/or reports;- communicating results of his/her research in conferences;- management of the mass spectrometry platform;- training of PhD students and postdoctoral fellows;- writing of grants in relevant research area with a view to attracting research funding from competitive sources; and- conduct other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education:Essential: PhD in analytical chemistry or a related subject with good background in human nutrition, metabolism or medicine.Desirable: Postgraduate training in analytical chemistry applied to clinical or epidemiological studies. Skills: - Very good knowledge of high and low resolution mass spectrometry analyses of small molecules in complex biological matrices such as human plasma, serum, urine or tissues;- Good working knowledge of statistical and chemometric methods, and bioinformatic tools for metabolomics;- Detailed knowledge of laboratory safety- Ability to draft reports and familiarity with the preparation of grant applications;- Proven organization and communication skills.- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.- Ability to collaborate effectively to deliver on-time high quality results in a larger team.Required WHO competencies:Ability to:- Produce results- Moving forward in a changing environment- Fostering integration and teamwork- Respecting and promoting individual and cultural differences - Communicating in a credible and effective way- Knowing and managing yourself Experience: Essential: At least two years of relevant experience at the international level in the field of analytical chemistry and metabolomics. Experience of supervising technical personnel. Good publication record in the relevant research area.Desirable: Experience in cancer, clinical or epidemiological research.
