Description of duties: As a member of the team, and under the overall guidance of the Head of the PRI Group, the incumbent is expected to, in the context of prospective studies:1. Identify and evaluate potential study collaborators.2. Provide supervision and training to IARC field activities and data analysis.3. Coordinate laboratory scientists as well as publication of study results.4. In the context of planned studies of cervical cancer screening in Tanzania, in collaboration with WHO/RHR contribute to the development and implementation of protocols, including the design of questionnaires, collection of biological samples, monitoring activities, and statistical analyses.5. Develop and coordinate, in collaboration with PRI scientists and RHR/WHO, the protocol of a randomised cluster trial to evaluate the effectiveness of different algorithms for cervical cancer screening in low resource settings with emphasis on low income countries.6. Support the coordination and implementation of the ESTAMPA project in Latin America.7. Participate in other activities related to cervical cancer, including the introduction of new WHO/RHR recommendations and support for AFRO in the establishment and implementation of cervical cancer control programs.8. Participate actively in the development of a research plan and a series of protocols on implementation research, in close collaboration with PRI's Implementation Scientist and Health Economist. 9. Write grants with a view to attracting research funding from competitive sources.10. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education:Essential: University degree in medicine. Specialization in gynecology or related field desirable.Desirable: PhD in epidemiology, public health or biostatistics. Skills: 1) Advanced knowledge of epidemiological methods, public health and clinical concepts in planning, conducting and evaluation of cancer screening and vaccination trials.2) Good field-work skills in managing epidemiological and above-mentioned studies in developing countries, particularly in Africa.3) Solid publication record in international journals. 4) Knowledge of computing and the use of commonly used basic statistical software.5) Ability to:- Behave consistently in accordance with clear personal ethics and values;- Discuss, understand and interpret relevant public health, epidemiological, and clinical issues in the context of HPV-related cancers;- Proactively engage and take initiatives in the conduct and evaluation of the studies; and - Proven ability to write grant applications.Required WHO Competencies:* Ability to produce and deliver quality results* Setting an example by behaving in accordance with clear personal ethics and values* Fostering integration and teamwork * Communicating in an credible and effective way* Respecting and promoting individual and cultural differences Experience: Essential: At least five years of experience of which at least three years at the international level in positions related to the area of cancer epidemiology.Desirable: Experience of work in developing countries, particularly in the African continent.
