OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : To support Member States to develop and implement policies, regulatory and financing mechanisms that ensure equitable access to effective and safe medical products and technologies of assured quality and their rational use by prescribers and consumers. Description of duties: Under the guidance of the Coordinator, Essential Medicines and Health Technologies in the Division of Health Systems, the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities related to assisting Member States in relation to containment of Antimicrobial Resistance:1. Provide technical and programmatic assistance in the development of national policies, national and regional mechanisms, instruments and capacity development tools used for containment of antimicrobial resistance specifically in the following areas:- planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of national plans and activities conducted in the area of antimicrobial resistance containment;- coordinating of technical support in the strengthening of surveillance systems for antimicrobial resistance and for monitoring of antimicrobial use in countries and data gathering at regional level ;- assisting with the capacity building and improving and assessing of interventions used to reduce spread of antimicrobial resistance. 2. Provide support in liaising between priority countries of the Region, the WHO Regional Office and the Headquarters in the following:- providing situation analysis and recommendation on antimicrobial resistance to countries in need;- coordinating activities among countries; - participating at regional/global meetings, conferences and other events on the subject.3. Provide technical support in the advocacy and information dissemination on the enhancement of the capacities and skills of health ministries in carrying out their function related to containment of antimicrobial resistance.4. Provide assistance in management of external contracts (APWs, consultant contracts), including liaison with contractors, and monitoring performance and reporting. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education:University degree in biological and/or medical/health sciences and/or public health and/or epidemiology is essential. Postgraduate university degree in microbiology and/or laboratory science and/or public health and infectious disease surveillance and control an asset.WHO only considers higher educational qualifications obtained from an accredited institution. Skills: Demonstrated experience in intersectoral collaboration and ability to work with other agencies and development partners. Demonstrated experience in Antimicrobial Resistance. Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, to plan and work under pressure and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.Competencies:1. They consist of a base salary and a post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates.
