JOB TITLE: Client Voices Intern (Unpaid)
POSITION REPORTS TO: Client Voices Specialist and Community Engagement Coordinator

BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in NJ was founded in 1984. As the largest refugee resettlement agency in NJ, the IRC in NJ resettles an average of 400 refugees into NJ annually and provides additional services and assistance to another 2,500 refugees and asylees.

SCOPE OF CLIENT VOICES VOLUNTEER WORK: The IRC NJ launched the Client Voice Initiative to strengthen client voices in all aspects of our work and to increase accountability to clients through creating client engagement channels and measuring client satisfaction. The Client Voices Intern will support the Initiative and will work closely with the Client Voice Specialist, Community Sponsorship Coordinator, and Development Coordinator towards these goals in order to enhance the IRC NJ’s ability to measure and respond to client feedback. This position is an unpaid volunteer assignment and requires a minimum of 10 hours a week for at least three months.


  • Conduct client satisfaction surveys with refugee and immigrant populations served by IRC.
  • Understand from clients their preferred ways to engage and provide feedback.
  • Assist with collecting and analyzing accurate client data, and data disaggregation.
  • Strongly adhering to IRC client data protection and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Assist with developing tools and resources for clients on IRC and community services, such as flyers, informative videos, resource guides, etc.
  • Attend and actively participate in Client Voice meetings and trainings.



  • Ability to work effectively in an environment that is multi-cultural and multilingual, experience using interpreters desired
  • Highly effective communication skills, emotional intelligence, and situational awareness
  • Highly adaptable and flexible self-starter with ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others, juggle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English; written and spoken.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole is highly preferred.
  • Data analysis skills is highly preferred.
  • Working Environment: Standard hybrid office working environment with – open to fully remote.
