NORCAP is a world leading standby roster which consists of more than 700 highly qualified women and men ready to deploy to international operations at short notice. Through the NORCAP mechanism, we aim to provide those at risk with access to protection and to ensure that their rights are respected throughout all stages of a crisis or disaster.

NORCAP is currently seeking Nutrition Specialists with experience from capacity development and coordination within the Nutrition sector.

Job description

Lead and manage nutrition cluster coordination at national and sub-national levels:
Ensure appropriate coordination between all humanitarian partners in the nutrition sector as well as national authorities. Ensure full integration of the IACS's agreed priority cross-cutting issues, namely human rights, HIV/AIDS, age, gender and environment. In line with this, promote gender equality by ensuring that the needs, contributions and capacities of women and girls as well as men and boys are addressed. Act as focal point for inquiries on the cluster's response plans and operations.

Facilitate development of a cluster strategy and response plan:
Developing/Updating agreed preparedness and contingency plans and response strategies for the cluster. Identify gaps in the emergency response.

Support the application of appropriate technical standards:
Ensure that responses are in line with existing policy guidance, technical standards, and relevant Government human rights legal obligation.

Ensure that the performance of the emergency nutrition information and interventions are monitored and reported regularly:
Include an analytical interpretation of best available information in order to benchmark progress of the emergency response over time and meet technical guidelines, local context, national and UN standards. Report on cluster indicators of service delivery and impact of interventions.

Build Technical Capacity:
Promote and support training of personnel and capacity building of partners, based on the mapping and understanding of available capacity.

Qualifications

- Advanced university degree within a relevant field of study (Nutrition, social sciences, international development, humanitarian response or a related field).
- Minimum 6 years of professional humanitarian experience from the field of Nutrition (equivalent to the UN P4 level or higher).
- Technical experience and knowledge in the area of Nutrition in emergencies response is required, including coordination, capacity development, planning or information management.
- Knowledge of the humanitarian community, including donors, governments, the UN system and relevant international and regional organisations.
- Experience interacting with government in humanitarian contexts.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English. The ability to work in at least one other international language – French or Spanish would be an asset.

  • College / University, Master / Phd grade

- Ability to work in a collaborative manner with team members and with multiple stakeholders at various levels from national to sub-national and community levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including cultural sensitivity.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in highly stressful situations.
