The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

The NRC is currently recruiting a Senior Adviser for Strategy and Risk Management. The position is placed in the Strategic Planning and Development Section.

Job description

  • Develop and maintain NRC’s organisation-wide strategy framework incl. guidelines and tools
  • Manage the annual strategy development process at Head Office
  • Comprehensive revision of NRC’s global strategy framework (2016)
  • Facilitate the development of NRC’s global strategy 2018-2020
  • Coordinate the trends and risk analysis process (incl. coordination of input from key functional areas of the organization)
  • Produce annual report on results in relation to strategy for the Board of Directors (internal report)
  • Identify organisational improvement areas
  • Ensure a strategic approach to organisational risk management in NRC
  • Develop and support the effective implementation of, and compliance with organisational policies related to risk management
  • Establish and maintain a global risk register and ccoordinate NRC’s risk management systems globally
  • Develop, monitor and support risk reduction plans to be implemented by the owners of critical risks
  • Contribute to the development of adequate compliance and quality control mechanisms of NRC operations
  • Provide services to help mitigate risk, support compliance, and make recommendations on improvements
  • Upgrade and adapt NRC’s main strategy performance management tool, the Balanced Score Card, to better suit the needs of the organisation
  • Facilitate and promote the sharing of best practices and positive behaviours identified in successful country operations with country operations that need support
  • Undertake specific risk management related projects and tasks as required
  • Contribute to development of management information system
  • Conduct training within field of expertise

Qualifications

  • Generic professional competencies:
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience within the humanitarian field
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Professional knowledge of organisational and strategic development processes
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal

  • Context/Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
  • Well-developed analytical skills
