The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent, non-profit, humanitarian organization. Since 2012, we support the Government of Iran in the provision of assistance to Afghan communities in the sectors of Education, Livelihoods, Food Security, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Shelter construction, Counseling and Information.
NRC seeks to strengthen the reach of its communication through the recruitment of a dedicated Advocacy and Communication Coordinator. He/She will be supervised by the Protection and Advocacy Adviser.

Job description

  • Ensure adherence to NRC policies, handbooks, guidelines and donor requirements
  • Lead in development of NRC’s communication and public relations strategy, in link with PAA
  • Support PAA in development of NRC’s advocacy strategy
  • Strengthen NRC's response to prioritized country advocacy issues both within the country, the sub-region and globally
  • Contribute to the development of NRC analysis and policy on prioritised protection issues, linking them to prioritised advocacy issues
  • Play an active and strategic role in the humanitarian community to strengthen the advocacy response in accordance with the country strategy
  • Plan, coordinate and carry out advocacy initiatives, campaigns and events in close cooperation with the Country Director and relevant programme staff
  • Management of communication related team
  • Support training of NRC program staff on advocacy and communication
  • Oversee media contacts and relationships, facilitating field visits and providing briefings and stories in line with agreed advocacy priorities.
  • Support programme staff to develop visibility, features, stories for the NRC website and other fora
  • Oversee and support the planning and implementation of visibility activities
  • Prepare and submit reports and analysis upon request
  • Ensure proper filing of all support documents
  • Establish strategic networks and alliances for advocacy activities in close cooperation with the PAA and Country Director
  • Upon request of PAA, prepare written briefings and presentations about key advocacy messaging for NRC Iran
  • Upon request of PAA, provide timely and context specific information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to project proposals and provide input on advocacy and communication related actions

Qualifications

  • Experience in Advocacy or Communication related positions in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Documented results related to the position's responsibilities
  • Demonstrated representation experience in public forums, including as a media spokesperson
  • Professional knowledge of humanitarian and protection principles
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills

Personal qualities

  • Familiarity with the environment of INGOs, UN and CSOs in Iran
  • Full Professional Proficiency in English and Persian, both written and spoken
  • Strong ability to write articles, briefings, reports and official correspondence
  • Ability to work under pressure and with limited supervision
  • Diplomatic and Good communication skills
