DRC is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled individual who is excited to work in communications and media for an organization dedicated to supporting people in need.  The successful individual will assist in the development and implementation of various communications items including in-house creative campaigns and content in various formats, including writing copies and brain storming ideas for videos, photos, podcasts, infographics, film, animation and social media.  The successful candidates will be computer savvy, creative, dedicated and able to manage competing priorities. 
 
Who are we? 
The Danish Refugee Council has worked in Lebanon since September 2004, and the programmes have followed the country’s needs and progress. The main focus of today’s efforts in Lebanon is to help the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, who have fled across the border to find protection from the conflict in their homeland. DRC is simultaneously maintaining the efforts toward the vulnerable groups of Palestine refugees in Lebanon, as well as supporting vulnerable communities of Lebanese who are hosting refugees. About the job 
The Communications Assistant will be responsible for supporting the delivery of content for DRC Lebanon, including contributing to regional and global social media channels and creating copies for use in traditional media.  The Communications Assistant will also support with the visualisation and layout of country office communication and programme reports, under the supervision of the DRC Grants and Programme Development Coordinator. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
• Assist in the development and implementation of in-house creative campaigns and content in various formats, including writing copies and brain storming ideas for videos, photos, podcasts, infographics, film, animation and social media. 
• Draft press releases, feature stories, factsheets and opinion pieces in both Arabic and English for use in DRC channels and in traditional and online media, including newspapers, magazines and media outlets.  
• Coordinate with writers and editors as needed.  
• Test products for errors and making amendments.  
• Develop a list of media contacts in Lebanon for pitching stories and story ideas on DRC Lebanon, its response and general protection context. 
• Identification of key communications and visibility needs, and coordination with programme and Beirut staff to best identify materials and modalities of dissemination.  
• Ensure quality and content of all public information documents for DRC activities, in coordination with relevant staff. 
• Responsible for media liaison and coordination. 
• Any other duties as the line manager sees fit.

• High language proficiency in English and Arabic.

Preferred skills/qualification include: 
• University degree in graphic design, filmmaking, communications, public relations or equivalent. 
• 0-2 years of experience in a communications officer or journalist position, preferably in an NGO or media settings. 
• Proficiency in digital tools and CMS. 
• Previous experience with publications. 
• Previous experience in HTML editing or Adobe Creative Suite preferred 
• Language skills in French beneficial. 
 
We offer 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 6-month contract. You must be available to start work in February 2017 and be willing and able to work in Beirut with travel to the field. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment. This position will be placed at level grade B for national staff. Basic Salary: 1250 USD
