Who are we? 
 Danish Refugee Council is a leading protection agency pursuing our mandate to protect and promote durable solutions to displacement-affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DRC apply a regional approach with operational presence in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Iraq. 
Present in Iraq since 2003, DRC is today operational in the Kurdish governorates, in and around Baghdad and in several South-Central governorates. Focused both on the influx of Syrian refugees and the current IDP crisis, DRC is providing assistance in a range of sectors including Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Protection, Livelihoods, Emergency Response (including food security, cash, and NFIs), WASH, Shelter and Mine Action. The Iraq programme presently employs some 450 national staff and 45 international staff, and is growing to meet new, emerging needs associated with ongoing and recent conflict in multiple locations. 
 
About the job 
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office and the technical guidance and coordination with the Senior Protection Coordinator the CPPM is responsible for all aspects of project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all related activities within the assigned area.  The CPPM will act as the technical lead on all child protection-related programming for the DRC response in Central and South Iraq. 
The CPPM will coordinate with the Senior Protection Coordinator, the Protection Project Managers, and other CPPM(s) for a harmonized and principled implementation of DRC protection programming in Iraq. The CPPM contributes to the fulfilment of the aims and objectives of DRC’s presence in Iraq.   
 
Duties and Responsibilities  
  • Ensure timely and technically sound planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of child protection activities, including budgets, in the assigned area;  
  • Assess child protection needs and identify problems/gaps and propose/prioritize in a timely and sound manner practical actions to respond to particular child protection problems; 
  • Ensure that the budget is properly forecasted and spent as per DRC and donors regulations; 
  • Develop and maintain a monitoring & evaluation plan, including systematic collection and analysis of data in line with the national M&E plan; 
  • Contribute to the protection mainstreaming efforts and improved understanding of child protection issues within DRC and ensure the adherence to international norms/principles, standards and guidelines for Child Protection and MRM mechanism; 
  • Contribute to refine child protection methodologies, data collection, monitoring and reporting tools, training and information material in close coordination with the SPC; 
  • Under the supervision of the HoO recruit, and in coordination with the SPC, provide supervision and coaching/on the job training of the child protection project staff, and undertake appraisals when appropriate; 
  • Analyze and report on relevance, outcomes and impact of DRC child protection related initiatives to provide lessons learnt and identify best practices; 
  • Identify funding gaps for child protection activities and contribute to the development of proposals to secure follow on or expansion funding for the child protection program as per identified needs/gaps;  
  • Ensure the respect of and adherence to DRC’s Code of Conduct, confidentiality and humanitarian principles; 
  • Develop, maintain and strengthen good partnership with humanitarian organizations and authorities in the area of child protection; 
  • Represent DRC at Child Protection working groups and other coordination meetings, ensuring; 
  • Contribute to develop synergies with other DRC programming in the area; 
  • Any other duties as requested by the Head of Office and/or the SPC. 
About you
 
To be successful in this role you must have: 
  • University degree, preferably in Sociology, Social work, Human Rights, International Law or related field 
  • Minimum three years of international work experience and expertise in child protection project management 
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of on issues related to working with children associated with armed forces and groups 
  • Expertise in best practice knowledge of child protection, gender sensitivity and child rights programming 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective and working relations with local staff and other stakeholders 
  • Excellent managerial skills  
  • Excellent analytical skills, report writing and proposal development 
  • Demonstrated commitment to accountability and quality assurance 
  • Experience of working with donors and agencies as the European Commission, US donors, ECHO and UNICEF 
  • Experience  and willingness in working in a conflict-affected context 
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in adverse conditions 
  • Ability to work under own initiative and with little supervision 
  • Experience in capacity building of national staff, and in convening and facilitating trainings and workshops. 
  • Fluency in English, Arabic is a plus

We offer 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 6 months contract. You must be available to start work on February 2017 and be willing to live and work in Baghdad, Iraq. 
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Expatriates; please refer to www.drc.ngo  under Vacancies. This position will be placed at A15 of DRC’s salary scale, depending on qualifications and experience. The R&R cycle for Baghdad is every 6 weeks.
