Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its Horn of Africa Programme to Kenya in 2006 and to Ethiopia in 2011. Since 2004, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has demonstrated a regional competence and expertise in working with displaced populations.

The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab and Kakuma ), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Dolo Ado, Shire,Gambella and Asosa), South Sudan (Juba, Awil, Alek and Aweril) and Yemen (Sa’naa and Aden).

The NRC Horn of Africa & Yemen mission is an expanding programme. NRC started its operations in Kenya in the refugee camps in Dadaab in February 2007. NRC has WASH, Shelter, Education and Food Distribution programmes implemented in the refugee camps in Dadaab.
NRC is seeking to recruit Motor Vehicle Mechanic Teacher. The Motor Vehicle Mechanic Teacher will implement YEP prescribed Vocational Training curriculum in Motor Vehicle Mechanic Skills within the programme under the direct guidance of the Education Project Officer and Overall supervision of Education Project Coordinator.

Job description

  • Plan and implement instructional activities in motor vehicle mechanics skill for the students as per the syllabus to ensure active and meaningful learning experiences
  • Prepare and maintain schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson notes, record of work covered and other professional records and avail them for monitoring as required
  • Maintain current students’ attendance records and make them readily available for monitoring
  • Prepare and use learning/teaching aids to effectively deliver the prescribed curriculum
  • Assess and evaluate students continuously as per the training programme requirements and maintain students’ progress records.
  • Make certain that course syllabus is covered and completed in time
  • Report for duty and lessons on time as required
  • Participate in mobilization, recruitment and retention of learners
  • Maintaining students discipline, participating in guiding and counseling of students and passing accurate information and communication with students on programme related issues.
  • Ensuring proper care and maintenance of learning materials, tools and equipment under your custody
  • Maintain a continuous inventory of materials, tools and equipment used during classes to avoid loses
  • Prepare annual and termly departmental training resources requirements (materials, tools, equipment) and submit to the supervisor In good time
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

  • A diploma or higher National diploma in Mechanical engineering specialized in Automobiles and motorcycles from a reputable training institution.
  • Technically and professionally qualified vocational instructor from a reputable training institution
  • Excellent interpersonal and Communication skills
  • 2 years relevant experience in hands on training on automobile repair and maintenance
  • Proficiency skills in motor cycles repair and maintenance
