The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency, food security, legal assistance, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors. 

NORCAP is a world leading standby roster which consists of 700 highly qualified women and men ready to deploy to international operations at short notice. Through the NORCAP mechanism, we aim to provide those at risk with access to protection and to ensure that their rights are respected throughout all stages of a crisis or disaster. At any given time, around 200 of our roster members are on assignment in more than 40 countries.

We are looking for an experienced Staff Care Adviser to further develop, implement and support our efforts in providing roster members with psychosocial support before, during and after missions. The position holder will be responsible both for driving the work within staff care in a strategic direction as well as providing our roster members with individual and group debriefings on an ongoing basis.

Job description

  • Support the Head of Section with development and implementation of the NORCAP Staff Care Plan and related activities
  • Contribute to cross-organisational cooperation –to the achievement of common goals - and participate in working groups when appropriate
  • Contribute to effective cooperation between different Sections and Departments of NRC
  • Manage budget associated with Staff Care activities
  • Keep updated on trends, developments and regulations in the field of expertise
  • Responsible for learning and training within field of expertise
  • Perform other duties in the department as appropriate

  • Specifically, the Special Adviser Staff Care will be responsible for
  • Development and implementation of framework for briefing, follow up and debriefing of roster members members in cooperation with relevant staff
  • Managing and performing individual debriefs
  • Facilitate and lead debriefing seminars (retreats) for roster members
  • Develop and assure quality of the systems and administrative procedures related to staff care
  • Provide support during critical incidents

Qualifications

  • Relevant university degree, and minimum 7 years of relevant experience within counselling / therapy, psychology, social work or similar field
  • Experience from working in complex and dynamic contexts
  • Professional knowledge of counselling
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Fluent written and oral communication skills in English; French and/or Norwegian an advantage
  • Knowledge of standard ICT office support tools
