Who are we?

The Danish Refugee Council has worked in Lebanon since September 2004, and the programs have followed the country’s needs and progress. The main focus of today’s efforts in Lebanon is to help the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, who have fled across the border to find protection from the conflict in their homeland. DRC is simultaneously maintaining the efforts toward the vulnerable groups of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. More than 200.000 Syrian refugees have received assistance from the Danish Refugee Council since the beginning of the crisis.

About the job 
The Legal Consultant is expected to providing the best possible legal aid including preparation of legal documents, legal counseling related to the legal status of person of concerns and House Land &Property rights, and legal assistance in accordance with client’s best interest with the aims and principles of DRC and the legal context of Lebanon, and conduct legal awareness sessions for beneficiaries.
 
Duties 
• Develop and disseminate informational materials including legal services and civil documentation, residency and HLP issues in particular 
• To provide individual legal counseling services for beneficiaries in legal issues related to: a) Housing, Land and Property Rights (HLP), b) Legal identity including legalization of necessary documentation to access rights and services (residence permit, marriage registration, birth registration, etc) 
• Ensure capacity building for the protection staff to provide basic counseling, delivering legal awareness sessions and mediation. 
• Provide legal awareness sessions in collaboration with protection department. 
• familiarize him/herself with the aims and principles of the DRC. 
• familiarize him/herself with DRC duty procedures, staff regulations, the Code of Conduct, and Humanitarian Accountability Principles (“HAP”) and observe these in the performance of his/her duties. 
• Inform refugees and asylum seekers about project activities and their legal rights and counsel them on means by which they may receive assistance from DRC, partner organizations, or the government and Prepare legal documents for beneficiaries. 
• Other duties as required by the Protection Manager or Area Program Manager

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you must have University degree in Lebanon or International law, Registered at Lebanese Bar Association and not less than three (3) years (practicing civil law and family law), Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards

 

Ideally you will also have advanced university degree (Masters Degree), preferably with the specialization in international human rights law and/or international refugee’s law, Prior experience in working with or coordinating with other international humanitarian organizations or governmental authorities

 

We offer 
An interesting job in one of the world’s best NGOs. DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract till 30th of September 2016, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from June 2016 and be willing and able to work in Bekaa area. 
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National staff. Daily rate will be based on experience and qualification.
