Overview of position

Organisation context & scope:

  • Established in 1951, our client is a related organization of the United Nations (UN) & as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental & non governmental partners. They are dedicated to promoting humane & orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services & advice to governments & migrants.

  • Under the direct supervision of the Humanitarian Hubs Project Coordinator & the National Project Officer, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective monitoring, evaluation & learning processes of the solar power project, focusing on the deployment of hybrid solar energy systems in humanitarian hubs located in north east Nigeria. The incumbent will assist in data collection, analysis & reporting to track project progress, outcomes & impact, thereby contributing to the project's success & sustainability.

Background:

Our client has secured funding from a donor agency to implement a project that will supply solar equipment & energy efficiency appliances to eight sites operated by our client in Borno state, Nigeria. The project will source solar equipment from an equipment provider that will install and operate the systems at the 8 deployment sites. A project will conduct the following specific activities:

  • Install 1 MW of hybrid solar powered battery energy storage systems at 8 sites.

  • Procure energy efficient appliances (including air conditioners) & solar water heaters.

  • Put in place an energy monitoring & management system in all 8 sites.

  • Build the capacity of teams on the ground to operate, manage & maintain the systems. 

The solar equipment supplier will have the primary responsibility for the installation, operation, spare part supply & maintenance of solar equipment. our client is seeking a Project Officer who will:

  • Manage the relationship with the solar equipment provider.

  • Who will lead internal solar project activities.

Role objectives

Data collection & management:

  • Support the development & implementation of monitoring & evaluation frameworks, tools & methodologies to track project indicators, outputs & outcomes.

  • Collect quantitative & qualitative data through the data collection methods, ensuring accuracy & completeness of information.

  • Organize & maintain project databases, files & records, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality & security.

Data analysis & reporting:

  • Assist in analysing monitoring and evaluaiton data using statistical tools & qualitative analysis techniques to generate insights, trends & lessons learned relevant to the solar power project.

  • Assist in preparing regular monitoring and evaluation reports, dashboards & visualizations to communicate project progress, achievements & challenges to project stakeholders.

  • Support the preparation of donor reports, presentations & documentation in compliance with project requirements & deadlines.

Monitoring of project activities:

  • Conduct regular monitoring visits to project sites to assess the implementation of solar power systems, adherence to project plans & compliance with quality standards.

  • Assist in document observations, findings & best practices from monitoring visits to inform project adjustments, improvements & decision making processes.

Evaluation & learning:

  • Assist in conducting evaluations, assessments & reviews of project activities, outcomes & impact using participatory & evidence based approaches.

  • Facilitate learning sessions, workshops & reflection meetings to promote knowledge sharing, adaptive management & continuous improvement within the project team & with stakeholders.

Capacity building & training:

  • Provide training & technical support to project staff, partners & community members on monitoring & evaluaiton methodologies, data collection techniques & reporting standards.

  • Foster a culture of learning, accountability & results based management within the project team & partner organizations.

Project reporting

This role will work under the direct supervision of the Humanitarian Hubs Project Coordinator & the National Project Officer.

Key competencies
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business administration or related field with four years of relevant professional experience or high dchool diploma with six years of relevant professional experience.

  • Relevant certifications or technical training in renewable energy is an added advantage.

  • At least 2 - 3 years of previous experience in project support, administration or logistics coordination, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector.

  • Familiarity with solar energy technologies, hybrid systems & sustainable energy solutions is desirable.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize tasks & meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural & multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) & project management software.

  • For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral & written) & working knowledge of local languages is desirable.
